With autumn well and truly upon us we’ve given in to the inevitable and have swathed ourselves in cable knits.  It’s quite a relief actually – chunky jumpers hide a multitude of sins, not least an alarming lebkuchen habit as the shops fill with German ginger biscuits.

And all around us, everywhere is gloriously bejewelled in nature’s most joyous array of look-at-me colours.  Subtle it is not, with the steep sided river valleys of North Devon taking on a distinctly New England in the Fall kind of swagger.

We love how fashion follows nature – the zingy sunshine yellows and cottage garden prints of summer dresses, the bright snow whites and mountainous greys of cosy winter layers.  Trends come and go, but at the heart of the new collections each season there will always be a nod to whatever the natural world is showing us.  So Hilary’s making lots of bags in gorgeous chestnut browns and burnt oranges right?  You’d think so, but no…well, yes she is, but she’s also having a bit of a thing for ridiculously bright lipstick pink.

Not at all autumnal, but very, very cheerful which is definitely a good thing right now.

And in other news – look what we’ve got for sale in the shop!  These extremely gorgeous terracotta tiles are just a few of a hoard discovered half buried in a local garden that were rescued, cleaned up and then brought to our shop window by a friend (how very Bagpuss).  We’re selling them for £3 each in aid of local cause Chulmleigh Community Welcome.  They make lovely little gifts so if you’d like one pop in soon – they’re going like hot cakes!
